Wound clinic plus dinner

I only managed a little on the BIG biog. before it was time to head off to the Wound Clinic. P. stayed at home to mind the cleaners (lickety-split). The clinic dropped me (officially discharged) as I am HEALED but the delicate new skin needs coddling so I'll need to be dressed for a few weeks (perhaps bandaids will do). Home again for lunch and a nap after fresh trials with the bank who have sent a 'security device' with instructions that don't work. And, of course, their phone enquiries isn't working either. Another day. We then went for dinner with Lesley P. at King and Godfree to catch up on the news. It was a lovely meal and a good mag. Home again for 4Corners, Media Watch and news.

Crossword and on with the same show

We despatched the crossword after we both hurkle-durkled. Then I went on with the BIG biog. and the BIG novel. We had vegie soup for lunch, then a nap. I made leftover fish curry for dinner, then it was NZ homes, a new cop series, Troppo, a bit convoluted in its expositio and we gave Vilanelle one more shot, which was hardly worth it. News then bed.

Papers and the usual

The Saturday papers were unexceptional, full of Ukraine of course. Then on with both the big biog. and the big novel. We had smoked salmon for lunch, then a nap. We then walked over to the Convent where we had a good light dinner at Cam's Cafe which was VERY busy, then went to the Industrial School where the Forest Collective gave a splendid concert with two works by Takemitsu, one by Richard Meale, and new works by Micah Thompson, Luo Maishuo and Alex Turley. Home again for news.

The usual thanks

After a short hurkle-durkle, I got back to the new normal, a chapter of the big biog. and the cutting (or lack of it) of the large novel. That completed we had cheesy tomato soup for lunch and now a nap. I made fish and pea curry for dinner, then it was gardening, and Van der Valk for a dose of Amsterdam. Then lots of news about the Ukraine then bed.

Shopping and music

We went shopping this morning in Merly. After Victoria Gardens we dropped Noel's shopping off then came home for salmon patties as usual. After a nap, we went for a good feed at Superhiro, thence to the Recital Centre for a concert from the Brandenburg Orchestra, culminating in Faure's Requiem (on original instruments, what?) but it was a splendid concert. Home again to confront the Ukraine war.

New job

I sent the small biog. back to the author and sure enough a new job popped into the in-tray. It's a bit cutting job (40,000 words to go), so I'll continue with a chapter of the BIG biog. every day when possible, then the cutting. I also went on with organising the Shepparton trip. We had minestrone for lunch, and now for a nap. We then went to Hotel Collingwood for a good dinner with David Sims. We caught up on his news. Home again for the spendid Hidden Assets, then news, then bed.

Tidying, biog. and boost

After a bit of a hurkle-durkle, I did some tidying, got back to the smaller biog. then went off for my fourth Covid shot (because I'm immunocompromised). P. went into town to pay his Telstra bill and other shopping. After a nap, P. made a mixed grill for dinner to use up leftovers, then we watched David Walliams in an entertaining Who Do You Think You Are, took a rest from the teev until The Feed and NITV News, then bed.

Monday, February 21, 2022

Organising then biog.

I did a bit of attempted organising of someone to do the new job. In progress. Then back to the smaller biog. P. got sangos and sushi for lunch, then a nap. We had leftover rakott for dinner, then Back Roads (Longford, Tas.), 4Corners (feral horses and people), Media Watch, a Chaplin (Charlie) doco. on replay then news, then bed.

Crossword, picnic and music

The Sunday paper arrived okay this week and we despatched the crossword without trouble. P. went on with making the fancy potato salad for the family barbecue and I went off to get Manon to take us there. We had a good mag with a selection of rellos then I dropped back Manon, had a quick nap and we went to the Convent for Genesis Baroque do Telemann and Bach with favourites Miranda Hill on bass and, guess who, John O'Donnell on harpsichord, audible for once in the good acoustic. Home again for rakott krumpli, then Vera, news and bed.

Papers intact and lazy day

Up, not too early, for the massing of the Saturday papers, then not much else, apart from a brief nap, cheesy tomato soup for lunch, then another nap. I made pasta for dinner, then we watched boring Death in Paradise and even more boring All Creatures, then news, then bed. At least I did something useful: made rakott for tomorrow night's dinner.

Movie magic

We went off early to the Old Colonists for Teresa P.'s movie show: this time Chaplin's The Kid, enjoyed by all with lively but laudatory discussion to follow. Then back to Abbotsford for a light lunch at Dr Morse, then home for a nap. P. made leftover roast chook for dinner, then it was Van der Walk, Aztecs, news then bed.

Tidying up

I hurkle durkled this morning for no good reason then had a look at a new manuscript which arrived overnight. It is excellent but I might flickpass it to someone else. We had vegie soup for lunch and now for a nap. P. did some gardening/weeding this morning then went off to get the Green paper. He then made yummy roast chook for dinner and we watched Foreign Correspondent, Q&A and UK murders, then news, then bed.

Shopping plus memorial

I picked up Merly the Ceranto this morning and P. and I did the shopping and delivered Noel's to him. Home again for salmon patties as usual. After a short nap, Sally picked us up to go to John Bryson's memorial in Studley Park, which went very well. Lots of familiar faces. Home again for fish chowder and usual Wednesday night teev.

Biog. plus cleaners

I finished my first read on the smaller biog. today; one more to go. The cleaners came lickety-split, but late and one day late and P. had a zoom meeting for Herbert (American Lit.)'s 80th birthday. Cheesy tomato soup for lunch and a quick nap. What a busy morning. We then went to the Recital Centre where we had a good meal at Blondie, then saw a concert with Omega Ensemble who did Mozart's original clarinet quintet, then Sculthorpe's string quartet no. 16 with obligato for William Barton on didj. Then The Gift - Our breath of life, a world premiere by Barton with the entire ensemble.

Podiatry and biog.

An early visit to podiatry where Amy re-dressed my foot, complimenting P. on his last dressing. We're on our own for a while and might try bandaids for a while. Back to the smaller biog. Nearly there. We had minestrone for lunch then a nap. P. made leftover rack off lamb for dinner, then it was castles plus Back Roads in Charleville, Four Corners and Media Watch. Back to normal Monday nights at last.

NO crossword

I spoke too soon yesterday: no Sunday Age today, hence no crossword and an interminable phone call to The Age to gain a $3.70 refund. We're now off to our final instalment of Homophonic, picking up the Age and crossword on the way. It included a rare solo piece for bass trombone by Peter de Jager played by Benjamin Anderson who was then joined by percussionist Hamish Upton for a meditative piece Ryoanji by John Cage. We finished up with brunch across the road. Thanks Ben O. for organising our tickets and Miranda Hill for curating. Now it's overdue naptime. P. made rack off lamb for dinner, followed by new Vera (always welcome).

Papers, medic and music

All the papers arrived this week, or at least didn't get pinched and were avidly consumed. We left in a hurry for Homophonic no.2 and P. forgot his phone and me my keys. It meant P. couldn't sign in at the venue so had to retreat. I joined Ben O. for Kyla Matsuura-Miller (violin) and Luke Severn (cello) for a low key concert. Home again for pho for lunch then a short nap. Out again to the Recital Centre for La Compania and Italian Renaissance music with soloist singer Jacqueline Porter, very beautiful music but the performance style, as with much early music, a bit dour. Let your hair down a bit folks. Off to Superhiro for a good, overdue meal and home again for news and bed.

Just a bit of tidying up and some biog.

This morning I just did some tidying up, had a short nap and we had chicken and corn soup for lunch. After another short nap, I went back to the smaller biog. to read a bit more and I'm now just over halfway through. It's looking good. I made fish chowder for dinner, then Monty Don, Midsomer Murders (final, is that a promise?), then news then bed.

Pills and shopping

I picked up Merly the Ceranto then P. and after getting pills at the Health Centre we went to Victoria Gardens and did the shopping, dropped Noel's chez lui then went home for salmon patties. Naptime. We joined Frank for a quick meal at Tiamo then went to join Ben O. at the first instalment (for us) of Homophonic in a Bubble. It was Jacob Abela and Kaylie Melville on synthesiser and percussion. As P. said it was a bit different from Wagner the night before. You didn't come out humming the tunes. But it was absorbing and very intimate (we were the audience of four, plus crew). We have two more instalments on Saturday and Sunday.

Tickets and the other biog.

First thing this morning, I had a phone consultation with Dr Genie. Everything is okay. Then I spent a bit of time getting the Recital Centre tickets I put off yesterday. Then it was back to the other biography. The author has sent a revision of the first part for reading and comment. We had the last of the French onion soup for lunch before a short nap. It was then off into town for a marathon Die Walkure at Her Majesty's Theatre. We joined Frank for a quick meal at Yamato next-door first, then went for an engaging five-hour show, a very conventional production which worked well without tricks.

Retrieving the card

A trip into town this morning to retrieve the card I left in the ATM yesterday. Thank goodness I didn't need to get a new card and change all my periodic payments (which I will in August when it expires). Home again for cheesy tomato soup for lunch and a nap. P. made pulled pork sliders for dinner, then news, trains. The internet came back on after an afternoon off. With the internet we watched last night's Media Watch, then more news, then bed.

Tidying

After a few days in Bendigo there was a bit of tidying to do. To my surprise, I was 81st in the queue for booking the second quarter of the Recital Centre so I gave up till tomorrow. I also did a bit on the big bio. P. went shopping and brought back sangos for lunch, now it's naptime before going out. We had a nice meal outside at Blondie then went to the ACO do Piazzolla with soloists James Crabb on classical accordion and Stefan Cassemenos on piano. It was a great concert and good to see the ACO enjoying letting their hair down.

Bendigo Chamber Music Festival

On Thursday morning I picked up Rosario the Yaris (near the Town Hall) as all the other cars were booked and out of action. We headed to Bendigo, had lunch at the gallery, and went to the Capitol Theatre for the first of the concerts (on Clara Schumann). We then checked into the motel (Barclay on View where we've stayed before), then had a meal at the pub with my sister and her husband, who were also there, then went to the evening concert. Next morning, we had the first of three breakfasts at the motel, then three concerts interspersed with meals at an Italian joint and the Malayian Orchid. There were quite a few substitutes among the artists as one violinist had an accident, another was a close contact and a third (a singer) lost her voice. But it all went very well. We had a good trip back to Melbourne today, then a nap. P. has made pork belly slow-cooked for dinner.

Wednesday, February 02, 2022

Blood test, plonk and shopping

Up early for a blood test at the Health Centre, where I ran into Frank, then to the PO to pick up a missed delivery, thence to Victoria Gardens for shopping. We delivered Noel's shopping then went home for salmon patties and a nap. We had leftover tandoori chook and rice for dinner, then quiz, Micallef and a new SBS Irish crime show.

Tuesday, February 01, 2022

End of month

Being January, there wasn't much to the end-of-month accounts which were over quickly. Sally dropped by for a mag and we had sangos for lunch. Naptime! P. made tandoori chook for dinner. We watched trains, birds, then the last two episodes of Paraiso which were kind of satisfying.
